Vodafone has announced that it is to start selling the eagerly-anticipated Nexus One smartphone in the UK within the coming weeks.
With Google, the company behind the new device, having already confirmed details of a strategic partnership in the United States, it has now been confirmed that the search engine giant will work in partnership with Vodafone across Europe in this new enterprise.
Britain will be the first European market to benefit from the launch of the Nexus One, which has been produced by Google in partnership with Taiwan's HTC as a direct rival to the iPhone.
A spokeswoman for Vodafone told AFP: "I can confirm that Vodafone is the first operator to partner with Google to offer the Nexus One in Europe, starting soon in the UK, in a few short weeks."
However, while it is anticipated that the device will prove popular with the growing numbers of businesses looking to increase levels of remote working and mobile email usage among their staff, she declined to comment on exact details concerning launch dates or pricing.
Meanwhile, Vodafone is one of several telecoms firms calling for a planned merger between T Mobile and Orange to be referred to the UK competition authorities.
