A new study has shown that a large number of medium-sized enterprises are considering adopting or adding to their unified communications.
Research by TheInfoPro found that 25 per cent of these businesses in the US will boost their unified communication strategies this year.
Audio conferencing and instant messaging are among the main reasons for increased usage, although email still remains popular.
Bill Trussell, managing director of networking research at TheInfoPro, said: "As with 2009, the key trend of 2010 among enterprises is striking a balance between cost-efficiency and effectiveness.
"For companies that have been forced to either eliminate or reduce travel budgets due to the downturn and rising fuel prices, telepresence and unified communications have offered solutions that are both highly productive and low-cost to the network budget."
It was recently explained to businesses that unified communications could also help them go green by reducing the need to travel for meetings and conferences.
