A new study has shown that the majority of businesses now see software as a service (Saas) as a viable IT option for themselves.
The research by Yankee Group has established that 57 per cent of business IT decision-makers view SaaS as a "business enabler", while just 35 per cent think it will still take some time before it suits them.
This is a considerable change from last year, when the survey showed that only 37 per cent saw it as an enabler.
Sheryl Kingstone, research director at Yankee Group and co-author of the report, said: "Cloud computing is on the cusp of broad enterprise adoption.
"Because our survey breaks down the state of adoption and plans for platform-, infrastructure and software-as-a-service, it delivers great insights into the marketplace."
Because it is delivered on a pay-as-you-go basis, SaaS offers businesses great flexibility and scalability, while also drastically lowering the capital expenditure they need to put aside for their networking.
