Numerous forms of unified communications (UC) are currently emerging, according to a new report.
The newly-released Global Unified Communications Emerges from the Cloud study by In-Stat has claimed that this is the case.
Dave Lemelin, In-Stat analyst, said that many "flavours of UC are emerging from the cloud".
He added: "There are versions that operate as a hybrid mix of customer-owned equipment with managed/hosted services targeting mid-size businesses, those that act as fully hosted offerings with smaller businesses in mind, and those that are revamped broadband telephony services targeting SOHO users."
In-Stat also claimed that vendors are positioning UC as a service rather than a product.
This results in providers working closely with hosted VoIP companies, the report went on to say.
The report is on sale now from In-Stat and is priced $3,495 (£2,100).
