Mobile broadband and smartphones represent a huge growth sector for the UK video games sector, it has been claimed.
Faster broadband mobile and the introduction of the iPhone and the Apple app store to the market has really rejuvenated what was an industry in decline, according to Nick Parker, chief executive of Parker consulting, a strategic consultancy for the gaming industry.
"Mobile was a market potentially in decline actually until the arrival of the iPhone and the App Store, which has rejuvenated the mobile gaming sector.
Other smartphone operating systems like Android and Windows Mobile are now contributing to the growth in the sector too, he added.
"A lot of the future of the gaming industry is a number of things. A little bit of it is on broadband download speeds."
According to Gamesindustry.com the introduction of the iPhone and other smartphones pushed mobile gaming up to 20 per cent in the last year, double the level achieved in other European countries.
