Creating back ups and confirming storage arrangements are among the steps businesses can take to ensure that Microsoft Exchange runs smoothly.
Erik Eckel, writing in a Tech Republic blog, said that these are two of ten measures that can be deployed.
He said creating back ups will ensure that Microsoft Exchange transaction logs and log files are stored.
The writer also claimed that defragmentation operations and mailbox quotas should be reviewed.
Mr Eckel explained that by confirming storage requirements, users can sidestep the problem of failing to correctly size disc partitions in Exchange stores.
Other measures suggested by the blogger include tuning virtual mailbox configuration, defragging database stores and running Exchange's bets practice analyser.
He also said that users should make sure they install Exchange-compatible anti-virus systems and spam services.
Last month, Business Week reported that investment in Microsoft Exchange 2007 could help firms to boost their performance and save money.
