Email will continue to be an important tool for many businesses over the next few years, according to an expert.
Mickaël Remond, chief executive officer of ProcessOne, made this comment after a recent study suggested that the form of communication would be "dead in ten years".
He commented that the "ubiquity of email" means that the service will be "irreplaceable for some time".
Mr Remond added: "Email will continue to be an important business tool for many organisations, as it enables them to reach a number of people across a number of locations in a targeted and methodical way."
However, he conceded that some firms may be suffering from "email overload" which could make it less effective.
The expert suggested that this may result in companies looking to real-time networks as a way of managing their business and conversations.
Earlier this week, a study by TalkTalk and the University of Kent suggested that social networking could take over from email in terms of popularity as a means of communication the coming years.
