New research looking at broadband speeds in the UK provides some interesting reading for businesses looking to get the most out of their software as a service (SaaS).
The study by Ofcom has established that the UK's average actual fixed-line broadband speed has increased by over 25 per cent over the past year from 4.1MB to 5.2MB.
However, with internet service providers promising faster services, the gap between advertised speeds and actual speeds has increased, potentially affecting the availability of SaaS solutions.
Ed Richards, chief executive of Ofcom, said: "Ofcom's research shows that average speeds have increased which is good news, but there is scope for a further step change in the quality of the UK communications infrastructure.
"Actual speeds are often much lower than many of the advertised speeds which makes it essential that consumers are given information which is as accurate as possible at the point of sale."
An alternative to fixed-line broadband would be a mobile broadband option, giving users flexibility while also still providing them with a way of accessing their SaaS solution.
