Employers should make best use of business mobile solutions, but should be wary of taking a 'one-size-fits-all' approach to scrapping the office altogether.
With growing numbers of both private and public sector organisations turning to the benefits of allowing their workers to carry out their tasks remotely, 'futurist' and management expert Richard Leyland has advised that technology such as email on the move is, for now, best-suited for workers in the knowledge industry.
Managers need to assess who out of their workforce would stand to benefit the most from remote working solutions and who would perhaps be best-off continuing to commute into a central office.
"Companies should think in terms of task-based work settings," he explained on Silicon.com.
"Working from home or from a coffee shop then become available options, chosen according to the task in hand."
This advice comes soon after the Aberdeen Group reported that mobile working is the biggest single driver behind the increasing uptake of unified communications technology.
